Champagne Year

Cheers to the New Year! Since I’m a mother of a small child, my toasting glass is actually a mug full of coffee, but you get me.

Since quitting my full-time job and moving to another state almost 2 years ago, I’ve gone through my biggest period of growth and self-discovery. It kind of felt like being a teenager again (which wasn’t fun at all ) but I feel so much stronger now after being in it for a while. There have been times where it’s been challenging to say the least, but ultimately this time has helped me identify what truly makes me happy, what I value most, and what I want to get out of life in general.

Heavy shit, no?

I hate New Year’s resolutions. I always start out hopeful, but then by January 4 when I miss the workout session I promised myself I would do everyday three days prior, I call myself a failure and view the whole new year as a bust. Do you do this, too? For 2020, I don’t want to stick to resolutions necessarily, but I do want to work on better aligning myself with my core values and things that make me feel like my best self. This feels healthier and like a better fit for me.

1. I want to fall in love with myself again. When I had to leave the house to work, I put more time and effort into caring for my appearance. Since I worked retail, I had a strong grasp on my personal style. And I loved it. I had finally reached a place where I was confident in myself and felt like how I looked on the outside matched who I was on the inside. With my change in lifestyle, that’s been completely thrown out the window. I’ve done the whole “throwing on whatever fits and is clean and calling it a day” thing for the past year now, and I’m over it. I want to start dressing, styling, and doing my hair and makeup solely for me because it makes me happy to do so.

2. I want to make a conscious effort to make more often. As anyone these days, I’m frequently pressed for time and it’s pretty rare I have more than an hour, let alone an entire afternoon, to dedicate to crafting. I’d like to embrace this stage in my life and seize more of the 5-minute moments that are available to make something. I’d rather do it a little bit each day than not do it at all.

3. Sustainability is something that is becoming more and more important to me as I continue to learn about it. My resolution for 2019 was to stop buying clothing all together and, with the exception of a bathing suit and a pair of leggings I didn’t have the time or skill set to make myself, I stuck to that goal. For 2020, I’d like to start taking steps towards becoming a zero-waste home. This is going to be a process, and I know I’ll be nowhere near perfect since I’m just starting out and learning as I go. But, I think if I start making small swaps room by room throughout the year, I’ll set myself up to do more in the future. Every little bit helps, y’know?

This is the first time in a long time I feel all the warm and fuzzies over the year ahead. I hope 2020 is good to you and that you have so much fun this year!

-XOXO-
