The Costa Tote from Helen’s Closet – #FreeMakeFriday

Are you sick of me talking about Helen’s Closet patterns yet? Of course you aren’t!

Today’s free make is the Costa Tote, and all you have to do is sign up for her email list to get your free downloadable copy of this essential pattern.

I used a few pieces of scrap fabric to make this bag, so I love that that’s an option for this pattern. The fact that is’t reversible is also an amazing feature.

You can make this bag with or without the pockets, but I say- the more pockets the better! I made this version specifically to hold my knitting and crochet projects as there’s plenty of compartments for my tools, patterns, yarn, working pieces and completed pieces waiting to be sewn up for bigger projects like sweaters or granny square blankets.

I’m thinking about buying a sturdier fabric like waxed canvas or denim to make a set of these for grocery shopping. I already have a set of canvas bags, but I find I’m often digging through bags within bags to find the size I’m looking for, so I love that I could store my low-waste carriers in a more organized way.

Done in about half an hour, this tote is a great zero-waste alternative to single use bags and makes a great gift as well. Hope you’ll give it a try!

If you do, be sure to tag @helens__closet and me @happymakes_me with the hashtag #freemakefriday so we can check it out!

Happy Making!
